Hotel LC Gritti Palace Venice

Hotel LC Gritti Palace Venice is a five star hotel housed in a ancient noble residence on Grand Canal, with vistas to the Santa Maria delle Salute Church.

History of the Gritti Palace building goes back all the way to year 1525, when Doge of Venice, Andrea Gritti, commissioned its construction, with the building work beginning that same year.

The completed building was first the official residence of the Gritti family, and later a residence for Vatican ambassadors to Venice.

Later still, the palace was home to several wealthy noble families, including Pisanis and again the Grittis in 1814.

Then, at the beginning of the 19th century, Gritti Palace was turned into a hotel and annexed to the Grand Hotel, which was housed at the adjacent Palazzo Ferro Fini.

After World War II, C.I.G.A. (Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi) took over the Gritti palace, making it, from 1948, officially an independent hotel. Later, since 1994, Gritti Palace, has been part of The Luxury Collection, a Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ brand.

Throughout the years, Gritti Palace has been renovated to its original condition, preserving its precious architectural features, original wooden ceilings, original entrance flooring, and 18th century wall lamps (all hand-made in Murano), for example.

All in all, the luxury hotel has 82 rooms to choose from, of which 21 are magnificent suites.

Of these rooms, 10 suites are inspired by famous past guests of the hotel, such as Ernest Hemingway, Somerset Maugham, John Ruskin, and Peggy Guggenheim, as well as art and cultural institutions such as Punta della Dogana, La Fenice, and by traditional festivities, as exemplified by the Redentore Suite.

The Redentore Suite features a unique 250m rooftop terrace with panoramic views to the Grand Canal, Giudecca island, and southern Venetian lagoon.

In addition to the luxurious heritage of the rooms, you’ll also enjoy from the most modern technology and amenities that are embedded to the rooms: air conditioning, satellite flat-screen TVs, and a private bathroom, which comes equipped with bathrobes and slippers.

In terms of location, The Gritti Palace – Luxury Collection Hotel is only a five minute walk from La Fenice Opera House, 500 meters from Saint Mark’s Square, and the nearest vaporetto water bus stop is just 400 meters at Santa Maria del Giglio.

The hotel’s restaurant, ‘Club del Doge’, serves a menu with dishes that uses fresh ingredients from the nearby Rialto Market. Within the restaurant, breakfast is served in its elegant room which features, for example, crystal chandeliers.

During the summer months, you can the hotel’s private beach, swimming pools, tennis and golf course in Venice Lido.

If you arrive to Venice via the Marco Polo airport, you have several options to choose from. One of the options is to take a water taxi (always agree on the price before boarding the boat). Water taxis are available 24 hours a day, and can take you directly to the hotel from the airport.

You can also take a public ferry from the airport, ‘Alilaguna’, which will take you from the airport pier to St. Mark’s Square (stop: San Marco Giardinetti), with an approximate travel time of about 90 minutes.

You can also take a bus, ATVO Bus Service first to Venice’s Piazzale Roma. ATVO buses to Venice depart from the bus terminal in front of the airport arrivals hall (no advance bookings are required). From Piazzale Roma, you can use vaporetto water bus line no.1, which goes via Grand Canal, to get to Saint Mark’s Square.
